Brian Drye is a creative, versatile musician and teaching artist. he is an Instrumental force in producing art, mentoring young artists, supporting educators and shaping artistic contributions through innovative education. He has Extensive experience across the creative improvisational landscape, devising transdisciplinary collaborations, preparing and directing experimental curricula as well as mentorship and collaboration with music educators. He is versed in managing administration and operations for academic and arts institutions.
For over a decade, Brian has been a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall where he has worked across the city in partnerships with public schools, Detention centers, homeless shelters and community programs. through carnegie Hall, brian has developed formative assessment strategies for music teachers in partnership with arts achieve. He has developed curriculum and resources for the weill Music institute and is currently on faculty at the Music educators workshop which supports NYC DOE Music teachers.
Passionate about his work with young students and a desire to use music to build community, brian has developed workshops and residencies for students and families at the brooklyn children’s museum, the Bronx museum and public schools around the country.
Brian has presented as a guest lecturer and coach at the university of southern maine, University of colorado and has served as adjunct faculty at bennington college. In 2017 - 2019, brian was invited as a guest lecturer at lincoln Center Education summer institute where he collaborated with teaching artists from around the world, representing many artistic disciplines.
In 2016 Brian joined the Juilliard School as a music specialist where he supports music educators in implementing a Juilliard based curriculum within a global schools network. He has also served as a part time music teacher at the lang school in NYC which serves “twice Expectional” students.
For over 20 years, Brian has maintained a private studio for trombone, piano and theory to students of all ages and experience. In 2017 brian joined the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music as the Program Director of the Community Music School where he is in charge of lessons, classes, curriculum and ensembles for students ages 0-100.
